A closed caption is a text version of what people or characters say, and any sound effects or music. When the caption is posted on the television screen, the viewer can read what is happening. When the closed captioning does not line up properly with what is happening on the screen, the viewer will have difficulty watching the program. Try these steps to troubleshoot when your closed captioning is out of sync.

First, make sure the closed captioning function has been activated on your TV. If it is on, retune your TV. Check all your TV controls to make sure they are set properly.

If your closed caption texts are jumbled, missing lines, or if the captions appear on different lines, check to make sure your teletext TV or decoder is tuned properly.

Roku devices have a very annoying default feature that can sometimes cause audio lag. This feature purportedly detects the audio decoding capabilities of the device and any sound bar or AVR setup you may have. Sometimes, you may experience audio lag only on certain streaming platforms.

Netflix and Hulu tend to be the top contenders most of the time, with Netflix pretty much edging Hulu for the top spot. This is also something that you can try for other platforms too. Netflix does.

Not many others do. Are you trying to watch something in 4K but keep running into audio desync? Upgrade your cable to ensure the integrity of the signal transfer. How can you fix audio lag? Changing the Roku audio settings is one thing. Hence, why sometimes audio lagging comes out of nowhere. Some bandwidth is always necessary, especially when streaming in high resolution.

But, even on a smaller bandwidth, you can always start a movie or episode, pause it, and let it load for a while before starting to watch it. But, both audio and video load at the same time.

Sometimes a rewind, fast-forward, pause, and play action on the remote may be enough to fix things.
